Private Practice Foundations

This course gives you the EDGE!

A 12-week course for proactive students or emerging dietitians who want to navigate the private practice system (or explore work opportunities outside the hospital).

Shaking Up Dietetics

Universities continue to prioritise our education around the hospital setting.

  • Despite more dietitians than ever looking to work in private practice

  • We're left fumbling our way into the workforce, competing against other dietitians who also lack the knowledge, skills, and understanding to work in private practice.

  • So, when it comes to finding work, how do you stand out from the crowd? Well, this course gives you the edge!

  • Increase Employability

Imagine walking into a private practice ready to hit the ground running. We'll give you the basics so your future employer won't have to spend all their time training you. Plus, you'll show them you're serious about this career. In other words, you'll get a headstart on other applicants.

  • Increase Confidence

Adapt the skills you learned at uni for the private practice world. Learn the right questions, deliver information in a way that resonates, and hold sessions that leave you and your client feeling great. And, it's a safe space to ask those 'silly' questions, too.

  • Access Proven Frameworks

Lay down solid foundations with our adaptable private practice framework, handouts and resources to help structure your sessions, manage time, stay organised and reduce the nerves in those first few sessions.

  • Build Resilience

Private practice has its highs and lows. This course goes beyond clinical skills, focusing on resilience and self-care. Learn to balance work and well-being, reducing burnout and stress. It's about thriving professionally and taking care of yourself too.

Private practice is incredibly rewarding, offering flexibility, adaptability, freedom, financial independence and the opportunity to work with more of the clients you love, but let’s be honest, getting your start in this industry can be really hard when your uni degree prepares you for hospital work!

You either have to...

  • Work for free to gain experience

  • Teach yourself how to run a Private Practice

  • Cross your fingers that you land one of the few paid (and supportive) roles

That’s why I created this course

Hi, I’m Jodie Accredited Practicing Dietitian Founder of Elevated Dietetics

In my 16 years as a dietitian, running two successful clinics, I've hired and trained over 50 dietitians new to private practice. As well as helping them shift away from a traditional hospital mindset to private practice, I've taught them how to run sessions confidently, build rapport with clients, set boundaries, and develop the autonomy, resilience and adaptability needed to succeed. From my experience, and working with other private practice owners in my Elevated Practice Progam, I know the biggest hesitation to hiring inexperienced Private Practice dietitians is a lack of time to train them. Even if someone's worked in the hospital setting, there's still a lot of training (time) required to prepare someone to run sessions independently and confidently. And let's be honest, with little (to no) exposure to private practice at uni, how can you even be sure it's your cup of tea? To bridge the gap between feeling like you have no idea where to even start or what's involved in being a private practice dietitian, I've created this course. I want you to feel more confident applying for jobs, running your first sessions, integrating into a team, and setting the foundations for a fun career in private practice that doesn't involve burnout, resentment or jumping from one clinic to another every six months.

Maybe you've just graduated uni and want to jump straight into private practice, or you're still studying and counting down the days until you never have to work in a hospital again, or you're working in the public system disheartened and burnt out, looking for a career change. You want to (or think you want to) work in private practice; there's only one problem: you don't actually know what private practice looks like, you keep getting knocked back from jobs, or you lack the confidence to even apply.

Let's change that!

  • Zoom out and consider the bigger picture of private practice and how it differs from the hospital setting (get a lay of the land) and understand what’s involved in running a successful clinic

  • Get our tried-and-tested frameworks to help you run confident, smooth and in-flow sessions without your nerves getting the better of you.

  • Foster a sustainable career as a private practice dietitian by understanding why and how to prioritise your needs. So you can have more fun at work and extra time outside of work.
